THE CENTER FOR MEN AT MCLEAN HOSPITAL is designed to help men identify and master the stresses of work, family and intimate relationships, as well as to cope throughout their lives with emotional or physical health challenges. Through a variety of settings--individual, group, couples and family therapy, as well as workshops and consultations--the center offers comprehensive services for men and adolescents and the important people in their lives.

McLean Hospital is a major teaching facility of Harvard Medical School, an affiliate of Massachusetts General Hospital and a member of the Partners HealthCare System, Inc.

Services & Treatment
Recognizing that men traditionally have attempted to cope with stress on their own and that they often do not benefit from conventional psychotherapy approaches, the center offers its clients a variety of services and treatment options, each of them acknowledging and building upon men's individual strengths, special values and unique style of problem-solving.

Services include the following:

  • lectures and workshops, focusing on such topics as relationships, executive stress, fathering, sports, marriage, and balancing work and family;
  • psychoeducational groups, examining such subjects as coping with anger, fathering and relationships with women;
  • individual, group, couples and family therapy;
  • private consultations for individuals or couples;
  • integration with specialized men's health care.

Supported by a network of health-care specialists, The Center for Men also offers programs designed specifically for private businesses, organizations and individual executives. Activities to meet these specific needs may include any of the following:

  • stress-management workshops;
  • sessions centered on such issues as effective leadership, power, team-building, professional burnout, gender diversity and sexual harassment;
